Choosing which direction to take after leaving school is a big decision. We’re here to support our students and make sure they know about all the options open to them.
Our curriculum focusses on careers, and we provide our students with meaningful career-related opportunities and activities throughout their time with us.
Students can use specific careers lessons in KS4 to research different college courses and explore work experience options. For year 11 Students, their annual review will focus on identified post-16 provisions that they have applied to, and the transition process. For Students in care, the process of looking at careers begins at different points depending on the local authority, through their PEP meetings.
The impact of the careers programme is assessed in a variety of ways. Students are offered the opportunity to take part in work experience for a week in KS4. Using the Hampshire Futures careers service, a suitable placement is identified and studentss are supported to engage positively. Where appropriate, students can access pre-16 college courses, that will often lead to higher level courses in their chosen area. Students can access this in either year 10 or year 11 depending on their needs and interests. All studentss are given clear guidance for post-16 provision, with support to find an appropriate college course, apprenticeship or work depending on their preferences. Where possible, students are encouraged to attend college open evenings or taster events. If necessary, individual tours can be arranged to show students a prospective campus. Jubilee School has a nominated careers advisor from Hampshire Futures who works alongside the careers lead to ensure student needs are met. Careers input starts formally in year 9 with termly lessons, and then weekly lessons in KS4. The Gatsby Benchmarks are used to measure the careers curriculum and ensure all student needs are met.
Feedback is sought from students, parents/carers and staff on a termly basis, and includes key questions around how well students are prepared for life after school. This data is analysed and feeds into the career provision.
